When setting up Equip for the first time, there are a few key areas to configure for the best results. Follow our guide for key considerations to get started well!
Account Setup
When you open Equip for the first time, you'll see a simple three-step process to select a few important settings. You can always come back and change these later.
Note: The 3-step Setup Wizard (below) will only appear the first time an Admin opens Equip. Afterward, when a new user opens Equip for the first time, they'll just be prompted to select their Ministry Role(s).
Select your Faith and Denomination:
Use the dropdowns provided to select the Faith Tradition and Denomination that best represent your church. These settings help Equip understand your church's theological perspective and influence the tone, language, and doctrinal alignment of AI-generated content.
Note: If your church isn't listed, choose the closest match. Later in this article, we'll cover where to add a Doctrinal Statement. This information helps shape AI-generated content the most.
Select your Bible Translation:
Your Bible Translation preference tells Equip which translation to use when quoting or referencing Scripture in AI‑generated content.
Select your Ministry Role(s):
Equip uses Ministry Roles to suggest tools common to ministry functions, making it easier to find tools helpful for your position. Select a Primary Role and up to four additional role types.
Note: Ministry Roles do not "lock" you into using only certain tools. It simply suggests pre-selected tools when creating content. You can always search for and use any available tool and change roles at any time.
Click Complete Setup to finish.
Configure Admin Settings
Click on the Gear Icon in the top navigation bar, then select Admin Settings in the dropdown menu. Here, you'll find three tabs with important information you'll want to review and configure.
Note: Only Universal Admins and Owners can access Admin Settings. If you don’t see this option, ask your church’s Equip administrator for access.
Organization Tab: Add Users and Permissions
The Organization tab in Admin Settings is where you manage your team, communicate important updates, and monitor activity across all Equip Projects. Click a bold heading for more information on each feature.
- System Announcements – Send important updates and notifications to your team directly within Equip. Announcements can be delivered to your entire organization, specific ministry areas, or individual team members.
- User Management – Manage organization access by inviting users, assigning roles and permissions, and removing users as needed to keep your team secure and up to date.
- Activity Log – Review organization activity and track key actions, including user activity, content updates, and project changes.
Context Tab: Add your Doctrine Statement
The Context Tab allows you to add Branding, update your Bible Translation, Faith Tradition, Denomination, and most importantly, add your Doctrine Statement (sometimes called a Statement of Faith or What We Believe).
Why This Matters: Equip doesn't operate in a theological vacuum. Your Doctrine Statement matters most to ensure AI-generated content stays within your theological guardrails and sounds like your church.
Pro-Tip: Think of Context Settings like preparing a guest preacher. You would want them to understand your church’s background, beliefs, and Bible translation before stepping into the pulpit. Context settings serve that same purpose for Equip’s AI.

Projects Tab: Setup Ministry Areas and Tags
The Projects Tab includes Ministry Areas, so your team can view or collaborate on shared projects, and Project Tags to keep content organized and easy to find as your library grows.
-
Ministry Areas represent a real team or department in your church, such as Worship, Youth Ministry, Communications, or Care Ministry. A simple way to think of Ministry Areas is as folders with membership and permission rules.
Use our 13 pre-created Ministry Areas or add your own so your teams can easily access and work together on Equip Projects. - Tags are flexible labels that describe what a project or content is about, such as a sermon series, season, audience, or event. Tags appear in multiple places within Equip, making it easy to find related content.
Understand Credits in Equip
AI-powered actions in Equip use Credits. Users can review available credit balances in the product, and tools show expected credit use before generation starts.
Credit Management Tips
- Encourage teams to test a single output before running larger workflows.
- Use strong source material to improve output quality.
- Document recommended workflows for your team if credit questions come up often.
Summary: Checklist for New Equip Accounts
- Review Ministry Areas, adding any you need.
- Add Users and assign Equip Permissions and Ministry Areas.
- Add a Doctrine Statement, so AI-generated content better matches your theological positions.
- Review how your team should use Credits.
- Decide who will monitor activity.
